I’m going to try to not turn this into a rambling mess, and keep to the point. However I make no promises.
Our appointment this morning was at 8:30am. We live about 30-45 minutes from our allergist so we left the house at 7:20am, dropped Patrick off with Nana at 7:35am then got Mark(wonderful hubby) to the carpool meet place at 8:00am (he had to go to Raleigh this morning) Luckily our allergist is right up the road from where I had to drop Mark off.
The nurse comes in all huffy, explaining how no one told her we were there for skin testing(it was written at the top of his Vitals sheet, and highlighted in neon pink)
I show her the list I made for this visit to keep me on point.
She takes it and goes off to talk to the doctor.
Here is where my story takes a turn to far beyond worse.
Mrs. Doctor and I haven’t seen eye to eye with Gavin’s allergies, since day one…but she has always been nice in her approach. Today must have been a bad day…or she got fed up with me “trying to prove her wrong” ugh. She walks in there and is not happy to see me. I’m sitting on the bed with Gavin because at this point he is scared, he knows what goes on at these visits and he hates them! I’m holding him, she stands about 2 feet in front of me with her ams crossed and a scowl. She proceeds to say how we can’t test for Quinoa, and I was fine with that I can just do a food trial at home to see. Then she starts picking away at my list. First of all…she didn’t let me explain my list. I wasn’t going in there to ask for EVERY item up there to be tested. The top section is what I wanted tested. The bottom was a list for me to have on hand of the items he is currently eating the most of. I only wanted star items tested…which I told Nurse Huffy-pants earlier.
She digs into me and is almost yelling at this point here are some quotes
“If he tested positive for all these what would be left to feed him! How will you feed your child!”
“You can’t take away EVERY little thing he coughs and ‘reacts’ to!”
“If you test him too much it would mess up our testing system!”
She belittles my knowledge of this claiming that “no child can be allergic to all these things!” Finally I say enough is enough, I clearly wanted only what is starred tested. He is on a full elimination diet of all his other triggers and still throwing up…something else is there! Fine we get testing started
It took 2 nurses to hold Gavin down and my whispering in his ear to get those. The whole 15 minute wait he stayed curled up in my lap like that, even while Nurse Huffy-pants measured reactions.
SO now to the part I know most of you came here for, the final tally.
